HOW DOES PREOPERATIVE FASTING AFFECT THE AQUATIC SECTORS OF THE BODY IN THE PERIOPERATIVE PERIOD IN CHILDREN?
FULL TEXT:
Abstract
Preoperative abstinence from solid foods and liquids before elective surgery under general anesthesia is a mandatory standard for the prevention of aspiration of gastric contents. Despite the fact that the risk of aspiration in healthy children does not exceed 0.2%, most recommendations still insist on restrictions: 6 hours for solid food, 4 for breast milk and 2 for clear liquids. Modern research calls into question the need for prolonged fasting, pointing to minimal differences in the pH of gastric contents and rapid evacuation of clear liquids.
